Travertine tiles are a popular variety of limestone from Turkey.
This limestone gives the travertine tile a large range of colours, sizes and finishes and this
accounts for the large variation in prices.
Travertine tiles can be used both as a wall or floor covering.
Travertine looks good in many different locations when its neutral tones are combined. You will enjoy the
contemporary and natural feel of it in your home or commercial project.
Like all stone, travertine is porous so it requires sealing and regular cleaning to keep it looking at its best.

At the cut-price end of the market you will discover that travertine tiles are less dense and have a
high ratio of the naturally occurring honeycombing through and within the body of the stone.
This is the reason that travertine is sometimes described as that creamy stone that bits drop out
of. The 'bits' are the pockets of creamy coloured resin filler used to fill up the holes before honing (polishing)
and this resin can suffer from shrinkage and wear and tear.
Travertine is also available as a "natural" tile where the surface pitting and holes are unfilled and
are grouted during installation.
